This book provokes serious thought. October 1, 2004 Ned Middleton (British professional underwater photo-journalist & author) 69 out of 70 found this review helpful
Whenever I recognise factual errors in any work of non-fiction (and I frequently do!), those errors are taken into account when it comes to judging - and reviewing, the work. In the case of this book, I have no way of knowing whether the well-argued and well-reasoned facts surrounding the events in the USA on 11 September 2001 (now known by the acronym "Nine-Eleven") as assembled and described in great detail by the author have any basis or not.Nevertheless, it is because those allegations "are" well-argued and well-reasoned that this book stands out as one that must be read by all those people on both sides of the Atlantic Ocean who care anything at all about this new style of terrorism, the direction in which the threat it poses is taking our respective countries and the consequential actions (or not!) taken by our leaders. It is easy to say we have a right to ask questions. It is more important to assert we have a right to demand answers. To return to my original point, therefore, whether or not the allegations in this book have any basis in fact or not, they are allegations which must be addressed by those leaders. It is important to note that this author is not alone in making such accusations, so this is not a maverick publication. Instead it raises the most worrying and disturbing questions about a series of events which shook the world and, in doing so, made a permanent change to that world - forever! I live in a small English village. No, not New England, USA - the original England that is still part of Great Britain. Eleven people from this region alone died in the twin towers and similar figures are repeated across this country. I do believe, therefore, it is fair to say we all have an interest in what happened on that defining day and what is being done about it. Whatever your personal views about those events, whatever your personal involvement (or otherwise), I have reached the conclusion this book should be REQUIRED READING for all citizens of the USA and UK. Once read, you will be asking yourself; Well, did they?, or didn't they? And why do those basic questions about the standard procedures relating to US Air Defences remain unanswered by those at the very top? Or is it we simply don't care how the war is won just as long as it is? NM
The shocking truth about 9/11 March 20, 2004 70 out of 76 found this review helpful
Having previously read several books about the 9/11 attacks, I was much looking forward to the release of David Ray Griffin's The New Pearl Harbor. Having now read this book, I consider it the definitive book on the September 11 attacks and the many unanswered questions that surround them.Griffin manages to cover all of the key concerns that have been raised in other books and Web sites that examine the events of 9/11. For example, why weren't the attacks prevented in spite of repeated warnings that the U.S. received in the months beforehand? Why were FBI agents blocked from investigating the men who later became the hijackers on 9/11? Why did the standard procedure of sending up fighter jets to intercept off-course planes fail to occur successfully four times in a row on 9/11? Why did the president continue with a relatively trivial appointment to listen to some schoolchildren reading, in spite of knowing that the first WTC tower had been hit before he entered the school? The list of questions goes on. Griffin even examines some of the more controversial claims made by critics of the official 9/11 story. For example, was it really Flight 77 that hit the Pentagon? Photos taken that day appear to show damage far too small to have been made by a Boeing, and the lawn in front of where the plane is meant to have hit appears intact, with no scorch marks or signs of gouging. Griffin is braver than most in his ability to examine these questions in a balanced and rational way. He presents a strong case for a far more in-depth investigation of the attacks of September 11 than those that have so far been conducted. Anyone who cares about peace and democracy ought to read this book.
amazing!!! July 19, 2005 H. Tayeb (somewhere in Arabia) 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
If you thought you knew all you have to know about 9/11, then you sure have to think again. This book will make you all blank , shake you so hard, make your brain twist, and then let you decide for yourself what has happened on that day. The author has raised so many questions and still kept his balance and distance. He did not claim he has the answer. But he promises you all the way that he would make you think and think again. An amazing fact about this book is that it will give you MANY available references to go back to and check for yourself every single citation. I have read so many books and articles about 9/11, and I can say this is the BEST book written so far.

Quite simply put this book makes for essential reading. Rather than believe what the main stream media has put out there start asking questions and do some independent research.
Something happened on that day in 2001 and I for one don't believe the official account. David Ray Griffin states the facts - it is for you, the reader, to come up with the conclusions.
I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to begin to learn the disturbing but undeniable truths which thus far have been so painstakingly and unjustly covered up.
Every last one of us should read this book...including Blair July 22, 2004 ALLAN COLLINS 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
I am not into conspiracy theories and had my doubts as to the contents of this book, but I heard David Ray Griffin being interviewed on the Radio a couple of months ago and was intrigued enough by what he said then to read it and make my own mind up. It would seem totally implausible for so many people to be willing to let this happen through total incompetence, which is what the US Commission looking into these awful events has today said, but happen it did and over three thousand people lost their lives. There are no conclusive answers at the end of this book, but there are many, many questions that do still need to be answered and I have come away from it believing quite stongly that the Bush administration did let this happen in order to go to war in the Middle East, not to get rid of Saddam and Al Qaeda, but in order to profit from the vast oil fields. I probably would not have believed I could have said this before reading this book but there is an awful lot of official explanantions that just do not make sense. Read this book with you eyes wide open and be prepared to think the unthinkable at the end of it.
