5 out of 5 stars Excellent Collection of 50 Irish Speeches   December 8, 2008

Richard Aldous is the head of history at UCD and he has compiled an excellent collection of 50 Irish speeches spanning 1782 to 2007.

All the major historical and political figures of the country are included -Grattan, Wolfe Tone, Pearse, O'Connell, Parnell, De Valera and Bertie!
The historical background to the speech is given as well as a short biography of the speaker.
There are also speeches by non political figures such as Seamus Heaney and Joe Connolly.

In summary a really excellent book that would make an ideal present for anyone with an interest in Irish history.
