Concise and well-written April 17, 2007 R. E. Hamlin (Cambridge) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
You get an email with a essay on sharecropping or demography or nutritional poverty traps. Because of the "unique" organisation your faculty offers you have yet to be lectured on that subject yet. This fantastic little book by Bardhan and Udry will give you a well-written concise overview of the topic citing all the key papers and laying out the main models. Most development economics textbooks aim low making them valuable starting points as an introduction to a subject you knew nothing about before moving on to the journal articles. What makes this book special is that it aims for a good academic level but clear enough that you can delve right in without having to read other books first. If you are a final year economist or masters student doing development get it on your bookshelf quick.
